The Band: Un-Cut 22 Ethan Hawke and John C. Reilly play tenors in the LA band of the same name, who meet while they're struggling to get their career on track. Without knowing each other's true identities, they become fast friends and work their way up through the ranks of the music industry. Sadly there's a strict rule in place that states if someone is dropped from The Band then that person must give up all rights to their music. This becomes a major issue for Reilly when he becomes too ill to continue playing guitar and can't find another job - he has no choice but to stop his music career at its peak and find himself wondering what path his life will take next. Amongst the Band is based on the life of Philadelphia-based musician and guitarist, Dave Pirner (who has played with Soul Asylum, The Riverdance World Tour and The Anthem). Hawke's character John C. Reilly is loosely based on Dave Pirner. Hawke also performed lead vocals on the song "Where Do You Go" which was written for Amongst the Band. A documentary about Ethan Hawke titled "Ethan Wants to Play Guitar" was released in 2009. The film follows Hawke around while he works to rekindle his love of playing guitar while also dealing with his tumultuous relationships with women. The film was written and directed by Jason Bonfig, son of director John Sayles. As of March 2010, Hawke was working on a memoir about his time as a struggling musician from his own experience. Much of the book is drawn from what he learned from author Kurt Andersen, who wrote an article about the difficulties that musicians that were turned down by MTV. The book is titled "Rejected", and "will chronicle Hawke's tumultuous relationship with a famously difficult woman who will be given her name at the very last moment." The book is expected to be published in 2011. Ethan co-directed an episode of Adam Sandler's Netflix series, "The Ridiculous 6" along with Dean Parisot. The episode is a remake of the 1973 film "The Outlaw Josey Wales", and is a western, just like the original. In 2009, Hawke starred as an angry teenager in "Gutterballs" alongside Robert De Niro. In October 2011, Hawke appeared on ABC's TV series "Detroit 1-8-7" as Mike Montello, a New Jersey hit man who works for Dominic Vitantonio (Joe Pantoliano), a murderous ex-cop. Hawke's character arrives in Detroit to confront his mob boss about being cheated out of money. On November 1, 2012, Hawke was featured on the PBS series "SoundStage" where he performed songs he had written. Hawke was cast as a corrupt police officer in the film adaptation of the Koontz novel "The Good Guy". Filming began in May 2010. The film was released on September 2, 2010 under the title "Up In The Air". Hawke played Sheriff Gus Monroe. He appeared as one of the three lead characters in Phillip Noyce's "The Rover". Filming began on October 15, 2013 and wrapped on December 18 that year. cfa1e77820
